Hyperlinks & Slide links (External and Internal)

Use Seidat's hyperlink feature to create redirects externally to your website for example, or within your presentations.

In your Seidat presentations, you have the ability to create both external and internal links. These links are now referred to as Hyperlinks (formerly External Link) and Slide links/Links to Slide (formerly Go to slide link). Additionally, these links can also be used to create protocols from within the slide (See Uses for external links).

Important notes

  • You can assign both a slide link and a hyperlink to a single element. (If both are added) Priority is given to slide links, but hyperlinks become active if the slide links target (slide) gets removed.

  • If you have a slide link with no hyperlink added to the same element and the target slide is removed, the slide link will not work but will remain in place, creating an error message if the slide link is pressed.
  • If you copy a presentation or a slide from another presentation (using the slide bank) that contain links, the links will come along (note again that if they are internal links and the target slide is missing, they won't work).
  • When it comes to smart slides, all slide links are presentation-specific. However, editing hyperlinks in a smart slide will affect every instance of the smart slide (i.e. every presentation containing this smart slide). You can edit hyperlinks both in a presentation and while editing a standalone smart slide in the smart slide bank.
  • If you want to create a link without attaching it to a specific existing element, we recommend creating a transparent rectangle and adding a link to it. This can be helpful when, for example, you want to add a link to a specific word in a text element.

Link editor & creating links

  • You can create and edit links from the element stack or the slide editor toolbar.
  • In the link settings panel, you can see all the created slide links or hyperlinks. When it comes to standalone smart slides in the smart slide bank, you can add and edit only hyperlinks there due to the fact that slide links are presentation-specific.
  • You can add a slide link or a hyperlink to any element on the page, i.e., image, shape, or text box. You can also add it to several selected elements at once.
  • If multiple links overlap, the one on top is the functional one from the overlapping areas.
  • You may see "Mixed links to slide" or "Mixed hyperlinks" cases, when selecting several elements with different slide links or hyperlinks. Editing or removing them will unify links among the selected elements. If you want to see the exact link, select each element separately.

Uses for internal links

  • Internal links are a great way to make the navigation in the presentation smoother. It is an easy way to skip slides that are not relevant to that meeting etc.
  • Create a page with multiple top categories listed, creating a menu for products, services, etc., and then add internal links to them.

Uses for external links

  • External linking is a great way to channel traffic to your website, social media page, or a specific page providing additional information, i.e., contact information, survey, or product order page.
  • Make it easier for the viewer of the presentation to contact the presenter later. You can create different protocols for your links. (examples below ⬇️)

Click-to-call and mailto links

  • You can add direct commands in the links to call or send an email using mailto: or tel: commands.
  • If you wish to have a click-to-call button, add tel:+358000000000 (replace the number with your country code and the number) to an external link
  • If you wish to have a click-to-email button, add mailto:example@company.com (replace the email) to an external link
  • To add a CC or BCC address, append ?cc=example@company.com or ?bcc=example@company.com (for example mailto:example@company.com?cc=example@company.com).
  • To add a subject line to this email, append the following to the email address: ?subject=SUBJECT%20GOES%20HERE.
  • To add a body to this email, append the following to the email address: ?subject=body=Hi%2C%20%0A%0AI%20would%20write%20the%20body%20here.%0A%0ABest%20regards%2C%20%0AExample
  • If you're appending more than one field to the mailto link, each additional field is added with an "&"
  • Example with the recipient, subject, and body: mailto:example@company.com?subject=SUBJECT%20GOES%20HERE&body=Hi%2C%20%0A%0AI%20would%20write%20the%20body%20here.%0A%0ABest%20regards%2C%20%0AExample
  • You can use any easy-to-use mailto generator found online.

Understanding Link Icons: Blue, Yellow, and Red

When managing links within your presentations, you'll notice that each link is represented by an icon with a specific color—blue, yellow, or red. Each color indicates a different status of the link, helping you quickly understand the action required:

  • Blue Icon: This icon signifies that the element has a link attached to it. The presence of a blue icon means the link is active and correctly linked.

  • Yellow Icon: Elements with a yellow icon may indicate two things ->
  • Absence of target slide, but presence of the fallback option: when the target slide is missing and there is a hyperlink attached to the same element, the active link will be considered the hyperlink. However, you may want to review the situation due to the fact that intended link was supposed to be "Link to slide".

  • Presence of extra hyperlinks: this situation may come to play from updates made to our link (formerly hotspot) logic. While these extra links are generally harmless, they require Smart Slide Managers attention to ensure that only the intended hyperlinks are active.

  • Red Icon: A red icon alerts you about a missing target slide. If you encounter a red icon, it means the designated slide the element is linked to cannot be found and there is no hyperlink option to fallback to. This requires immediate attention to restore the intended functionality of your presentation and avoid any navigation issues for viewers.

Removing a link

  • Remove the existing links by selecting the link with the selection tool (left toolbar).
  • Next just press the trash can icon.
  • Save the page if you want the changes to take effect.
